Tension, apprehension, And dissension have begun #2 (European Arrest Warrant edition)
Stockpiles of Drama were running low again, and the prospect loomed of having to excavate Youtuba comments threads. But then Louis Carthorse brought the news that it was a mast year in the Drama Orchards in the back paddock behind stately Riddled Manor, and the dramadillos were exercising their rights of agistment and pannage and silage and growing fat on the windfall. This means that your hard-working but infinitely distractable Riddled scribes are in a position to bring you up-to-date with the GcMAF saga!

Of course GcMAF was only the first of a series of game-through break-changing snake-oils. Magic Yoghurt, GOleic, Rerum and most recently Immortalis Klotho were in turn presented to the world, each surrounded with the same curative promises and the same warnings that previous products no longer worked. And there were no-frills own-brand knock-offs: ReViVe, and Kerry Rivera's 'Condroitin', and 'Omnia' from Trevor Banks. But that is all forgotten now, swept away in a wave of GcMAF nostalgic revivalism.
The story resumes with various hard-core Truther conspiracists calling for Derriford Hospital (Plymouth) to account for the whereabouts of Lynda Thyer (Biomedical Researcher, "cancer cure genius" and altruistic purveyor of the best placebos money can buy), now disappeared from the Psych Ward and feared abducted by Big Pharma kill-teams. If anyone wants to adapt this episode for the big screen, the Beelitz-Heilstätten facilities would provide the right ambience.

Ideally, readers will recall the delightful characters who have enlivened the saga so far. There are siblings Trevor Banks and Lesley Hutchings, who for a while were on the payroll of David Noakes as social-media consultants (i.e. they infiltrated on-line support groups and bulletin boards for cancer and Chronic Fatigue and what-have-you, posing as afflicted themselves and preaching the virtues of the magic molecule GcMAF, as sold by Noakes). Then they went free-lance, and joined forces with Amanda Mary Jewell while companies came and went. Eventually Lesley was selling the health-bringing panacea in the form of protein-enriched skin-cream... only to incur the full persecution of the French state, despite backing away from the claim that her "MAFactive"cremes-passionelle actually contained any GcMAF. Ideally her chief nemesis Judge-Inquisitor Jean-Luc Gadaud will be played in the movie version by Keanu Reeves.
But meanwhile, the third sibling Lynda Banks stuck with Noakes, wearing a white lab-coat, which makes her a scientist. The family own a house in Dover but all the evidence points to them really hailing from Essex.

Anyways... Ms Thyer was previously holed up in the attic of 450 New North Road, Ilford, under siege from landsharks and paramilitary forces in the guise of paramedics. Just saying: if there's a knock at the door and a shout "Someone rang for an ambulance, is everything OK?" they might as well be calling "Candygram!"
TOTALLY NOT SKIP THE COUNTRY ON THE NEXT PLANE await the gendarmerie. Well-wishers persuaded her to sleep at the undisclosed safe-house New North Road instead.
The story seems implausible, and perhaps there had been a misunderstanding, for details include (a) a letter from Thyer's solicitor, giving her a 10-day stay of the extradition and excusing her from gym because of hay-fever; (b) medical advice against flying for the next five days; and (c) an appointment in the Magistrate's Court on Monday June 17th, to begin the extradition proceedings. If all this sounds confusing, don't blame me - I flatter myself that I have actually added coherence to the narrative despite its filtration through the fevered brains of Clan Paranoia. It is possible that our Truther informants were experiencing interference from alternative pasts, with cognitive cross-talk and bleed-through (as predicted by the Clyde Multiple Pasts model of quantum reality).
Now this is where Ian R Crane enters the story, and where it gets interesting, for scholars of the human condition (and for insensitive easily-entertained brutes). Crane seems determined to weld the diverse strands of Trutherdom into a single unified force, with himself at the helm, directing them through Youtuba ukases issued from a field in England. He aspires to be the Pope of Paranoid Ideation; the ringmaster of a 5-ring Conspiracist Circus where supplement pimps rub shoulders with anti-5G EMFphobics and exchange their insights into the Purity of Bodily Fluids and race. When I wrote "interesting" I was using the word loosely.
Readers should recall Crane as the John-the-Baptist to Noakes' implausible Jesus, initiating him into the esoteric wisdom of GcMAF and setting him on the path of cancer fraud, in an incident involving Algerian typeface and the 'Codex Alimentarius'. More recently there occurred Alternative Views 10, a yearly gathering of the Truther Tribes, or Glastonbury for Galoots if you prefer.
It turned out that one of the mystery guests at AV10 (Embracing the Chaos!) was Lynda Thyer! She wowwed the crowd with her tale of persecution and oppression and pathos. The pathos came in with the news of the recent cancer death of her father. So the gathered believers-in-search-of-belief opened their wallets, and Lynda is flush with donations, making her even more popular and very truly run-after by other fraudsters. In case you were wondering, this was the father whose cancer had previously been cured with GcMAF and the advice of Amanda Mary Jewell.
Summoned by a Crane-call, the Sovereign Citizen Freemen-on-the-Land contingent rallied to Thyer's defense. These especially solipsistic individuals have collectively assembled an economic / jurisprudential / linguistic scholium of thought in which their own ad-hoclynch-mobs Common-Law Courts overrule the traditional, consensus illusion of a legal system. They are distinguished from the more common Libertarian belief system by having no desire to win wider society over to their way of thought, and by not rejecting wider society's obligation to support them. So long as they use certain talismanic markers of pronouns and pronunciation to distinguish the Dasein from the Ding-an-Sich they can slip the surly bonds of taxation and debts, exempt from mere written laws. To understand how all this works you have to internalise a special syntax, with a non-standard punctuation of colons and square brackets (the addition of emojis is only a matter of time)... I like to think that you pronounce the marks in verbal discourse, like Victor Borge's Phonetic Punctuation. It is as if General Semantics and Null-A Logic made a cabalistic baby together.
A mouthpiece of this eccentric collective delusion, empowered by a Common-Law Court that regularly convenes at "Sizzlers" curry house in Dundee [Dave Barry disclaimer here], came down to London for Thyer's June 17 Magistrate's Court appearance and appointed himself as her supralegal representative, by dint of his Power of Attorney. This also sufficed to disestablish her existing legal team. The same legal genius had already quashed Thyer's extradition (and disciplined High Court Justice Supperstone for ordering it) with a ruling issued from the same curry house, with little obvious effect, but he was undeterred.
Indeed, he also presented himself to the Royal Courts of Justice in his role as Surrogate Thyer, planning to appeal the extradition and / or abolish the court, to the bemusement of staff as her Appeal had taken place back in March.
It is an informative document, spelling out charges, in language which might have sounded less quaint in the original French.
The document is also a window into the manufacturing / distribution network assembled in the Continent after meddling stickybeaks in the UK shut down David Noakes' facility in Cambridgeshire (operating in a garage under the supervision of Rodney Smith, fully-qualified home brewer). We learn of the Dutch distributor Duurzaam Gezond Production ("Sustainable Health"), from which Thyer received €11,411.05. "Sustainable Health" is Rinno Heidstra, a broad-spectrum quack who operates a clinical cafetaria of medscams -- blood-ozone perfusion and the like -- out of Enschede, to attract German suckers using a cross-border loophole. Like Klaus Ross but with fewer casualties. The new supplier of the Magic Molecule was not stated (perhaps it was not germane to the French prosecutor's case).
But there is no honour among cancer leeches and elsewhere Noakes reckons that all his ill-gotten profits ended up in the pockets of his erstwhile colleague Marco Ruggiero, leaving him only with his private plane and his collection of bullion and Jaguar cars.

Accepting an offer to stay at a friend’s home, Lynda Thyer arrived at the undisclosed safehouse at 9:45 pm. Around 10:15 pm, very suspiciously, two ambulance crew-women with walkie talkies knocked repeatedly and violently at the front door for 20 minutes. An uncalled-for ambulance was parked outside for no reason for two hours until midnight, then drove off. An unmarked car with rear lights on was seen between 10.30 pm and 1 am across the road to the left of the Green, also parked for no reason for over two hours. Neelu Berry notes it is possibly of the Secret Service which has followed Lynda from the airport on a tag.
Around 10.47pm on 11th June 2019, an ambulance crew turned up at the home of Neelu Berry without being called out, knocking violently and repeatedly at the door for 5 minutes, and remained parked, blocking the drive for 2 hours. Another Black car was seen parked for the 2 hours plus another 2 hours after the ambulance left. This was an Extra-Judicial Kidnap and Assassination attempt by the Organised Crime Network which provides Protection Frauds to criminals to target whistleblowers with Impunity. The Criminals are hired to wear different outfits as per the frauds they are required to act out, whether Police Officers, Bailiffs, Social Workers, Ambulance Crew, Secret Service Agents....Before that, Thyer was sighted at Heathrow Airport. The story has it that she was waiting to surrender herself into French custody, following instructions of the Kent Police European Liaison Unit, who had also sent her the train tickets to Heathrow, with orders to wait there overnight for the French squad to arrive on June 12 to escort her to their home country. She suffered an attack of the Malingles in Reading in the course of her odyssey (which to be fair could happen to anyone in Reading); was arrested, resuscitated (without the use of GcMAF) and released again on her own incognizance, and having reached Heathrow, she proposed to kip on a bench and

This also sufficed to disestablish her existing legal team. The same legal genius had already quashed Thyer's extradition (and disciplined High Court Justice Supperstone for ordering it) with a ruling issued from the same curry house, with little obvious effect, but he was undeterred.

On Thursday 13th and Friday 14th June 2019, John Smith attended the High Court at the Royal Courts of Justice in the Strand, London."Power of Attorney" here means that John Smith assumed Thyer's status in the court; in paralegal terms he became her [no, I am Spartacus!]. The court refused to recognise him, either as a legal representative or as Thyer's surrogate. But where was Thyer herself? Not there to surrender herself, it seems.
John was there as he had obtained a Power of Attorney for the living woman and ownership of the Fictitious Name 'LYNDA THYER.'
It was pointed out by various members of court staff, department managers and a solicitor, who they had contacted, that John Smith had no standing in this action. They refused to accept Common Law Court documents and stated that they could only deal with the legal team who had represented Lyn previously.
When these staff were informed that John had a Power of Attorney and ownership of the Fictitious Name, they ignored it, confirming that they would not accept any paperwork from John.
At the end of the two days, John had sacked the existing legal team and the same court staff had to accept the lawful Common Law Court documents presented by John, in doing so they also accepted that John had standing. These papers are currently with a judge and we are awaiting an update.
There were about 65 people there and the judge threw out the case in 20 mins. John Smith insisted he was Lyn Thyer. The judge said but Lyn is a woman. Johnj said that he had acquired all the legal rights to the name Lyn Thyer. The Judge refused to see the paperwork which, to my experience, should have been filed at the court before the hearing (even if its a weekend, as only 3 days notice of the hearing was given). The ruling on that real-world extradition appeal is replete with details of Thyer's health issues, depression, suicide attempts and general overacting; and about the parlous, inhumane state of French prisons (which is something one should really think about before moving to France to do all the crimes).. It was argued that the French authorities were not sincere in their desire to interview or else they would have interviewed her already rather than let her flee the country, but the judge was having none of that
I was surprised that most of the support did not realise that Westminster Mags is where the chief Mag of England and Wales and specialises in extradition. Rumours were abounding that the supreme court handed down to a lesser court, but this was not the case.
Lyn didn't turn up at court, but there is now a warrant for her arrest "for her protection".
It is an informative document, spelling out charges, in language which might have sounded less quaint in the original French.
The details of the offences in summary are (1) swindles as a gang;Only Mopery and Aggravated Cozenage are missing. For additional quaintness, Thyer is described as 'companion' of David Noakes, and he as her 'former partner'. For Noakes is as much a person of interest. Fortunately he is no longer enjoying Her Majesty's hospitality, as his UK trial had focussed on minor charges of distributing unlicensed products (and a little light money laundering), so he is now free to be extradited as well, allowing the all-round convenience of a combined trial. Along with one-time euro-scrubber David Halsall, and one can only speculate about the other defendants.
(2) illegal exercise of the profession of pharmacist;
(3) marketing or distribution without authorisation of products defined as medicine;
(4) advertising products defined as medicine;
(5) fraud over the nature and substantial qualities of a product;
(6) fraudulent possession of products defined as medicine without previous marketing authorisation as a gang, facts considered as importation and exportation as smuggling;
(7) concealed work by dissimulation of activity;
(8) illegal operation of a pharmaceutical establishment; and
(9) biomedical research without obtaining a favourable opinion from the Committee for the Protection of Persons and the authorisation of the competent administrative authority.
The framework list is ticked for swindle.
During an operation conducted on the instructions of the judge in February 20, 2017 in the region of Cherbourg, the following elements were discovered and seized: cash in 10 different currencies, 2 silver bars, 2 jaguar vehicles, a storage room, clandestine manufacturing laboratory, a stock of 7,000 vials ready to be shipped – with an estimated resale value of 3,150,000 Euros (7,000 vials at 450 Euros each), as well as many documents (invoices, records, manufacturing memorandum…)But wait, it gets better! Eight other defendants!
Further to my telephone call to you at 3pm, I have just been informed by Derriford Hospital 01752 202082 in Plymouth that they are very concerned for the Medical health of Citizen Lynda Thyer after she absconded from the Respiratory Ward at 11 am this morning. She was admitted on medical grounds due to stress induced loss of appetite of 1 week, after 5 collapses in 7 days, low BP, several attempts at resuscitation, coughing blood. A Mental Health Fraud was also attempted at the hospital. So to sum up: Citizen Thyer has absconded, and it is the hospital's responsibility, and Libya is a land of contrast. This post needs more lynx, and maybe more illustrations, but I am jetlagged and the next flight is boarding.
She was officially discharged at 3.20pm this afternoon in her absence.
I can confirm that the criminal charges she faces are identical to those faced by Citizen Mr David Noakes who has 3 appeals to Ruling, Conviction & Sentence pending from 27th Nov 2018, due to failure of the Criminal Appeals Office to process them in an Extradition Fraud.
...
All Extradition proceedings in the Westminster Magistrates Court are in Contempt of the Criminal Appeals Court.
Please note, both Lynda Thyer and David Noakes as well as 8 other Defendants are the subject of a witch-hunt by the MHRA Big Pharma, after they successfully found a natural way to recover patients with Stage 4 Cancers within a few months using GcMAF. Lynda Thyer is a World renowned Researcher and Biomedical Scientist. Over a 100 Naturopaths have been disappeared or murdered in the last few years.

The Persecution and Assassination of Jeff Bradstreet by a Cabal of Conspirators under the Direction of Big Pharma
On an earlier visit to the swirling accretion disk of grift known as GcMAF (the less-known brother of MAFfei 1 and 2), to revel in the delightful personalities encountered there, I wondered why Candice Lee-Bradstreet wasn't blaming magic-molecule-man Mario Ruggiero for the sinister demise of Jeff Bradstreet. And so it has come to pass, IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE PROPHECY.
"Has it occurred to Candice that the person most motivated to remove J. Bradstreet from the scene was in fact Ruggiero himself, impresario of mystical dairy products?"
A little context is in order for all our new readers. Jeff Bradstreet was a serial medscammer who never saw an cancer- or autism-cure con he didn't like, and here at Riddled Investigative Bureau and Trebuchet Museum we were pointing and laughing at the lowlife cockwomble even before he ventilated his spleen with a bullet.
Hilarity ensued that ventilation, in the form of crowd-sourced fund-raising to prove (by way of a private forensic examination) that his death was really MURDER. The instigators were Jeff's brother Thom and sister-in-law Candice, who were not well-pleased with the lack of cooperation from local constabulary... nor with Bradstreet's widow Jennifer, who was disinclined to promote the private-investigation scam scheme. Candice's FaceBorg page was rife with dark speculations on what Jennifer was trying to hide, and reminders that she could clear her name any time by cooperating.
In the absence of talkative informed people and of any actual investigation, one can just make shit up. So here's Amanda Mary "Trail of Bodies" Jewell again (a person of regular interest to Riddled) - still relieving cancer patients of the money they no longer need after taking her advice to avoid real treatment, but seemingly back in Mexico rather than lying about her health resort and New Age University in Belize - with a list of Bradstreet's assassins, taken without credit from an Agatha Christie plot-line.
One thing missing from her account is any trace of an actual investigator's report. There are quotes from anonymous law-enforcement sources, though; and anonymous scene descriptions (contradicting Candice's earlier complaints that the exact location of Bradstreet's suicide was suppressed). Also anonymous reports - freshly forged and still glistening with rectal mucus - of the presence of Jennifer on the scene. The main attributions are the frequent invocations of "the Bradstreet family" as a source, which is to say Candice.*
The post is an extended composition, maintaining a kind of coherence for entire paragraphs without reverting obsessively to the more fascinating topic of Amanda Jewell herself. In fact it would come as no surprise if Candice had written the whole piece herself and puke-funnelled it through Jewell for the same of deniability (vindictive defamation doesn't really fit into her fauxvangelist Christian brand).
Naturally the Big Pharma hit-clans take pride of place in the conspiracy line-up. Evidently, though, they could not be trusted to stage a simple suicide by themselves, and required Ms Bradstreet's assistance (motivated by freshly-fabricated rumours of marital discord). In third place we find Fiona O'Leary (fine person and Friend of Riddled) who really doesn't like Alt-Med fraudsters, especially when they target the autism neurotribe.
Fiona's schedule is already crowded with naming and shaming bleach-enema scum, $cientologists and neo-fascist conspiracy-theory politicians, but she found time to shine sunlight on Bradstreet's various skeezy scams... impacting on his income streams and earning the enmity of his heirs. It isn't clear from the Jewell account whether Fiona left her family in Ireland to participate in the hit, as opposed to involvement through planning and support. The evidence is that she gloated over Bradstreet's demise.
As further provocation, she is accused of embarrassing and bad-mouthing AMJ (and the whole GcMAF industry) to the point that the Saisei-Mirai chain of placebo clinics in Japan will no longer supply their fermented-colostrum variety of ersatz GcMAF, forcing AMJ to resort to a Bulgarian source. It was totally not because someone welched on paying Saisei-Mirai.
The current version of the List concludes with Mario Ruggiero, who was first to grasp the commercial possibility of GcMAF - before he abjured GcMAF as a cure for anything, switching his clinical endorsement to subsequent products like GOleic and Rerum with less-generic names and less-commodity natures, and a greater share of the profits going to M. Ruggiero. Thereby betraying his guilt. Also he is clearly in cahoots with Fiona, as evinced by her lack of hostility towards him.
The target audience for AMJ and Candice is the faith-based Truther flocks, who can be trusted never to check what they are told, for fear of failing a purity test by their disturbing lack of faith. Anyone who does Google outside the bubble will find examples of Fiona condemning Ruggiero as a shameless charlatan in about 20 seconds. Conversely, the records of her gloating over Bradstreet are exponentially harder to find; almost as if it never happened.
Here at Riddled we are disappoint by our own omission from the List. Does a brother have to sign the feckin crime scene to get any credit?
I am not sure how thoroughly Candice has thought this all through. At some point, AMJ will need to up the ante in search of additional drama, by extending the List of conspirators... and who profited more from Jeff's death than Candice herself?
fuckpuppet employee, and his medical views should be valued appropriately. Before that he was working (along with MAJ herself) at La Flor De La Salud quack-clinic / spinal chop-shop.

[...] We need Jennifer Lackey Bradstreet to talk to Det. Keever NOW. This video only shows a glimpse of the frustration our family endures with her withholding information from the family. [...] Put yourself in our shoes for a moment, feeling completely helpless, tormented with questions, and tormented that we couldn't be there, before she cremated his body, destroying all evidence and any chance we may have had at a second autopsy [...] Jennifer, if you ever read this, or somebody sends this to you, please know that we never wanted to suspect you. You have every opportunity to come forward and speak to law enforcement and clear your name. We want to believe you, we want to move onto other theories, but we can't do it until you talk. Until you do, you will always remain a suspect. The original crowd-source goal of $25000 was soon met, and therefore doubled, and the fund had reached $43000 when it was cashed in and dissolved amid folding of tents, without an accounting or anything to show. Some might say that there could be be no tribute more appropriate for Jeff's career of fraud, but such cheap jibes are below us here. There is competition, anyway... Erin Elizabeth's tribute was to solicit funds to make a documentary about her "Great Culling of Quacks" fabulation.

------------------------------------------------------------
* To be fair to AMJ's post, it is not entirely unsourced, for a "MD Fermin Celma" provides his clinical opinion about the methods of suicide preferred by medical professionals ("euthanasia drugs). Unfazed by the threat of meeting the same fate as Bradstreet, MD Dr Fermin Celma Simon [...] has thankfully carried on and progressed Dr Bradstreet’s work in his specialised field of Autism.Needless to say, Dr. Jose Fermin Celma Simon is himself sufficiently fraudulent to qualify to be AMJ's
While working under Dr. Jose Luis Romo, in Puebla, Mexico at La Flor De La Salud, he trained in the specialized areas of magnetic pairing and Voll testing. There, he also studied recovery therapies for many chronic illnesses, bio-cellular medicine, HTA control and the treatment of disc hernias without extensive, invasive surgeryIn other news, Candice is currently dosing her husband Thom with AMJ's ersatz GcMAF in lieu of chemotherapy, so we can anticipate yet another charitable crowd-sourcing appeal soon, to pay for the expenses of his funeral.

Additions by Tiger. This post was earlier cross-posted at Leonid Schneider's site, hence the nonfrivolity and Explaining Voice. The version there is improved by Leonid's editing.
Meanwhile, revelations continue in the ripping yarn of papermills, peer-review shenanigans and peer-reviewer manuscript piracy in the august pages of Multimedia Tools & Applications (MTAP). It is enough to undermine one's faith in the promises of automated, pervasive, panopticon-state surveillance through cyberspace and meatspace which populate the pages of that journal. It all came as a surprise, for the title led me to expect a focus on hard-to-pigeonhole digital artforms.
The story so far is that someone was confiscating manuscripts which had been submitted to MTAP, then publishing them in the names of cronies and customers, somehow bypassing actual peer-review in the process. We provisionally pointed the finger at Yiyang Yao, nominally author of many of the pirated MTAP papers (and their digital doppelgangers at JVCIR, the Journal of Visual Communication & Image Representation); and / or Caiyou Zhang, his colleague at the State Grid Zhejiang Electric Power Company. What we had earlier missed, though, was the "Citation Plantation" phenomenon.
By way of (roundabout) explanation, here is Yiyang Yao's email address on a paper where he was Corresponding Author. It appears to be a one-time throwaway identity, a 'nonce' as the linguists and Infosec people say:
* Yiyang YaoA pattern begins to emerge when we look at the e-addresses provided for other fake papers. They're all bogus, to keep the putative authors out of the loop, and coined by the same person... Some person who really likes the number 1778. If you ever find that dude's credit card, you know what PIN to try.
junli1778@126.com
zhengyongjun1778@126.comLet's look at the use of "junli1778@gmail.com". The context is "Wireless security and control technique in boardcast [sic] television signal transmission", by Tengfei Wu again - now affiliated to "China Anhui Broadcasting Corporation, Hefei" and no longer (if ever) at Singapore National University of China. It relates the lessons about security and interruption-proofing he learned from keeping the Anhui television network on-air, and it earned him an award. The language is far from standard English, hinting at several cycles of Google Translate but not always entirely comprehensible. But we should cut some slack for an author whose first language is perhaps Gujarati or Hindu, judging from Figure 3 ("An introduction of the total monitoring center platform includes eight sub-program modules"), which was evidently drawn up to illustrate someone's experiences at ensuring uninterrupted television

I am not convinced that Figure 2 ("An introduction of the eal-time monitoring stations transmit various operating states") is adequate to depict the challenges and technology of contemporary broadcast media.
As for Figure 1 ("An overview of our proposed security system"), it has appeared before: for instance in an InTechOpen book where it was captioned "Global model of digital broadcasting system".
What concerns us most, though, is the disproportionate amount of the References section given over to the works of L (Luming) Zhang (henceforward just LZ).
LZ was originally at Zhejiang University (ZHU) and graduated in 2012, studied in Singapore with Zimmermann as a 2013-2014 post-doc, and progressed to the School of Computer Science at Hefei University of Technology where he is still listed on the faculty, but is now back at ZHU as a researcher.
Commenter 'Me' observed that clusters of citations for LZ's work irrupt into a remarkable number of MTAP papers, as if this were part of the journal's manuscript-formatting convention. In total he has received over a thousand references from MTAP, which is valuable currency in the academic-promotion economy. It is as if LZ had somehow suborned the journal's peer-review system, so that the citation advertisements for his career are sometimes the payloads of fake papers (arranged along a spectrum, from confiscated manuscripts that were sold to other authors, to meaningless collages of copy-pasted gibberish) and sometimes enforced on legitimate authors as the price for publication there. The parsimonious explanation, then (h/t to 'Me'!) is that LZ is the contributor of those self-citation delivery vehicles... calling him 'author' is too strong a term. A German observer reached the same conclusions.
LZ does indeed turn out to belong to MTAP's honorable hard-working peer-reviewing corps. He was an editor of the Special Issue of MTAP (“Multi-source Weak Data Management using Big Data”) where the malfeasance was too pervasive and came to light. He also works closely with Tengfei Wu... jointly they own a software company in Hefei. They are two buttocks of one bum [T. Sturge Moore 1911]. While one of those paper-shaped MTAP hairballs which with we began, nominally written by Tengfei Wu during his sojourn in Singapore (China), in fact carries LZ's e-address for correspondence. No '1778' disposable identity!

It seems that LZ is happy with the 'zglumg' abreviation as he has been using it since his PhD study at ZHU, later when doing a post-doc in National University of Singapore (zglumg@nus.edu.sg), and currently as a researcher in ZJU again.
It isn't really necessary to look at another of these MTAP confections, but they are amusing.
Until its retraction, “Utilizing a deep learning model to enhance video credibility verification system” bore the names of Yongjun Zheng (zhengyongjun1778@126.com), Yinjie Wei, Wenjun Li and Yi Lu. The title sounds meaningful enough, apart from the empty adjective "Deep" which needs to be read in the voice of a stoned hippie... but the authors wandered unchecked through a garden of bright images, so sentence fragments about ‘video credibility verification’ alternate with fragments about hacker attacks on industrial software (and how to thwart them). My guess is that someone submitted a paper focused on the Industrial Software Security angle, which collided in the office printer with a few other documents so they all got mashed together and nonsensical (also unrecognisable to the real authors, but only as a side-effect).
Figures are pilfered from various sources. Figure 2 ("The flowchart of our deep industrial analysis process") can be traced to a 2012 discussion of the STUXNET worm attack.
The legend for Figure 3 is somewhat opaque: "In the structure of our CNN starting module, module (a) and (b) are proposed in [22] image classification, the execution module and memory module and calculate the budget even in the strict constraints (b) is an expanded (a) to promote the coarse grid".
The lower part of Fig 3 had earlier appeared in an unpublished but arXived manuscript by LZ, "Describing Human Aesthetic Perception by Deeply-learned Attributes from Flickr" (drawing from the same post-doc project as his 2016 paper with Richang Hong & Dacheng Tao). He really likes the word "deep" in its many forms, believing it to have talismanic virtue.
The upper part is the "Inception Module convolution"architecture for computer vision, courtesy of Szegedy and colleagues at Google. It took its present form when 2016 Qi et al. replotted it in "Deep feature representation and multiple metric ensembles for person re-identification in security surveillance system" - crediting Szegedy et al., so that's all good. But then it found its way into "Utilizing a deep learning model..."...
AND as Figure 1 of "A method of multi-criteria set recognition based on deep feature representation" by "zhangcaiyou1778@126.com"et al....
AND as Figure 5 of "Efficient object analysis by leveraging deeply-trained object proposals prediction model" by Bo Dai, "Yiyang Yao" / junli1778@126.comet al....
AND as a digital doppelganger of "Efficient object analysis..." at JVCIR (no contact details provided).

I need to say that I am not making up the shared legend:
Fig. 1 / 5 In the structure of our CNN starting module, module (A) and (B) are proposed in [22] image classification, the execution module and memory module and calculate the budget even in the strict constraints (B) is an expanded (a) to promote the coarse grid.ieee high dimensional representation of the final format of your paper will do the. If your paper is for the meeting, please comply with the restrictions on the conference pageBoth those latter papers were retracted for the usual reasons - "authorship manipulation and an attempt to subvert the peer review process" - but also because of the extent of plagiarism from Qi et al. (2016). The picture went once too often to the well and is broken at last. Alas, plagiarism is not an issue for the editors of JVCIR.
Apart from this industrial-scale plundering of text and illustrations, Qi et al. (2016) contains a familiar Citation Plantation for LZ's benefit... presumably inserted as the toll for acceptance in MTAP. In fact the same citation block turns up in a 2017 paper by the same team. Meibin Qi and co-authors are in the Computer and Information faculty at Hefei University of Technology - which is to say LZ's colleagues at the time - but that did not save them from his depredations.
The lesson here is that an undigested bolus of LZ citations is neither sufficient evidence nor necessary evidence to establish the bogosity of a paper. It may be enough to require a correction to the paper.
I cannot resist two last excerpts from "Efficient Object Analysis..." They show what can happen when adversarial Google translations and Roget substitutions, intended to defeat plagiarism detectors, go horribly wrong.
Traditional intravenous infusion is an effective method in complex scenes such as target occlusion, sudden change, illumination, interference and so on.While from "Deep feature representation", the process of plagiarism-hiding engarblement turned the "KISSME algorithm" in the original text into a cybernetic insult.
The structure of this paper is as follows. Securities and Exchange Commission, sec. 2. We introduce the estimation of object importance. Securities and Futures Commission, sec. Three. We studied background estimation. Securities and Exchange Commission, sec. 4 fusion detection is given. Securities and Exchange Commission, sec. 5. We sent the experimental results and evaluation results in advance. Finally, we conclude that this is effective in SEC. Six.
Our informant notes that LZ is not the only MTAP peer-reviewer whose papers have been so influential, recognised by over a thousand MTAP citations... many inserted en bloc at the re-submission stage, often with no obvious relevance to the text. The problem may be more widespread, and editors might also want to look at the reviewingactivities of Ye Liu. But this post is already long enough without going down that rabbit-hole.
Anyway, the steady stream of MTAP Retractions suggests that the editors have accepted that they have a problem and are trying to cleanse their Augean stable. It all raises the purely hypothetical question: At what point should a board of Editors accept that their journal has been systematically corrupted and pimped out by its peer-reviewers, and announce that nothing they have published for the last few years deserves any credence at all?
Now if I were to pick a dozen or so publications from my CV, abusing peer-reviewer powers to coerce other researchers to promote them and up-vote my reputation, I would focus on papers with special relevance to my employment or research-grant ambitions. I would leave out the ones about trebuchets and the Renaissance tradition of Memory Palaces.
And we saw earlier how many of these bogus MTAP papers could interest governments (purely hypothetical ones) that would like to monitor the movements, actions, and on-line activity of every citizen, through ubiquitous automated video-camera and social-media surveillance (a timely subject right now). It is impossible to delve into this literature without hearing soft-rock stalker anthems by The Police playing in the back of one's mind. Anyway, this focus is especially acute in LZ's Citation Plantations... they come across as a job application.
One can only speculate how much this strategy of reference extortion contributed to LZ's ascent from Hefei University of Technology (a regional institution) to Zhejiang University (among the top five in China). His position there is sensitive, and rumored to have military sponsorship, so we are reluctant to ask too many questions. His office is unlisted.
I am not entirely convinced that LZ is the right person to enhance a dystopian government's mass-surveillance capability. His publications are too reliant on talismanic phrases like "Deep" and "Big Data" and "Lightly supervised machine learning" in lieu of details; and on diagrams of the relationships of black-box modules; and on plagiarism. His models need to be more explicit in Step Two. And the predictable '1778' pattern for his one-time identities is terrible trade-craft. From the perspective of an outside observer, of course, he is the perfect researcher for a dystopian government to waste money on, rather than giving it to a non-charlatan who might achieve results.
If it turns out that LZ had no direct hand in the production of all these papers, and that they all emerged from a neural network he designed and trained, then he will have earned every yuan.

Mockademy of Sciences
This post was earlier cross-posted at Leonid Schneider's site, accompanying a letter from an Israeli clinical immunology professor, hence the nonfrivolity and Explaining Voice. The version there is improved by Leonid's background additions and editing.
The story was subsequently picked up by Dr Gorski at Science-Based Medicine and Respectful Insolence. Huzzah!
I first encountered Professor Yehuda Shoenfeld (author, serial founder of journals, and Conference Impresario) after the retraction of one of his papers for methodological insufficiency. He was not well-pleased, complaining of the damage to his other job as an Expert Witness who testifies for compensation-seeking 'vaccine-damaged' complainants. Indeed, he seemed to be convinced that this testimonial moonlighting was what motivated the criticism and retraction.
Indeed it is [very] strange; after one year of being in the journal and after extensive peer reviews of the paper suddenly we received a letter from the editors that SOMEBODY criticized the paper extensively??, it looks very strange and unprecedented. yet indeed at this time we have used this paper in Court for vaccine compensation to show that autoantibodies penetrate cells. Is it coincidental ????????In expert testimony to the US Court of Federal Claims, arguing that epidemiologists are all wrong and unexpected heart failure was probably caused by HPV vaccination, "Dr. Shoenfeld’s opinion was that the vaccination was still the reason for the death [by car accident] either because the reporter of information manipulated the data or because the vaccination impaired the person’s ability to operate a car." Special Master Moran noted observed in a footnote:
Dr. Shoenfeld appears to be developing a propensity for selective ad hominem attacks. When researchers such as Dr. Chao find no evidence that a vaccine is causing an increased incidence of disease, Dr. Shoenfeld attacks the integrity of the researcher. However, Dr. Shoenfeld readily accepts the reports of a vaccination preceding the onset of various diseases without considering the bias or prejudice of those reporters.A 'Professor Schoenfeld' gave evidence in the 1996-2003 £15m "MMR vaccine causes autism" litigation. For further expert-witnessing, I refer you to a post by blogger "Neurodiversity". The context was a curious incident in 2006 when Autoimmunity Reviews (Co-Editor-in-Chief, Prof. Y. Shoenfeld) commissioned an article from David and Mark Geier (struck-off medical malpractitioner) about their quack cure for autism ("mercury toxicity") by chelation and chemical-castration drugs; published it; and then retracted it. Anxieties arose about conflicts of interest because so many editors and authors were testifying for a "vaccines cause autism" etiology in a US court case of the time, the Omnibus Autism Proceeding. Brian Deer wrote more.
So Shoenfeld is identified with the anti-vaccine lobby, at least in the minds of anti-vaccine True Believers. His is the name most touted in tweets as proof that Real Science is on their side (with Drs Exley, Shaw, Gherardi and Luján as lesser authorities). I feel safe in predicting they will make the most of his induction into Israel's Academy of Sciences as a vindication of everything they have said.
It was inevitable, then, that out of Shoenfeld's oeuvre of 1986 papers and 161 book chapters, vaccine-themed publications would attract the most post-publication scrutiny (and the most retractions). Though to be fair, much of that oeuvre comprises literature reviews, and case-study compilations; and what is there to criticise about scouring the literature in search of confirmation for hypotheses? Thus much of the scrutiny that exists - appearing in discussion threads at the PubPeer forum - has targeted regrettable metaphors more than empirical contents.
This Guest Editorial finishes:Bonus bad metaphor:
"All these papers light the idea that unraveling the soul of autoimmune diseases is like playing chess, and with every discovery, we are adding new moves to the game. The pathogenesis, disease and treatment are the rook, bishop and knight pointing at checkmating ADs."
So autoimmune diseases have a soul, which is evidently knitted, so it unravels. Which is like playing chess... where the disease is the bishop, allied with its pathogenesis (the rook), pitted against the treatment (the knight). This is not any form of chess I am familiar with, so it is just as well that "we are adding new moves to the game".
At the same time it is a puzzle. To which new dowels are being added. That is where the metaphor lost me.
But it may be that I am putting the tail before the dog, or letting the cart wag the horse, or something along those lines. Shoenfeld has also identified himself with the concept of autoimmunity, which he evangelises with prophetic, proselytic zeal, seeking to enshrine it as the heart of medical research and practice. As David Attenborough is to Nature, as Carl Sagan was to the Cosmos, so Shoenfeld is to Autoimmunity and he will not rest content until he hosts a six-part BBC documentary on the topic.
So there are autoimmunity textbooks (Ed. Shoenfeld) and scholarly journals (Ed. Shoenfeld), and the Venice Biennales of the field, the International Congresses on Autoimmunity.
Also, the Academy of [on-line] Autoimmunity. The advertising brings Multi-Level Marketing to mind, or Trump University (with its promises of an entrée to the closed, lucrative world of real-estate dealing), and seems to be aimed at a pool of would-be Autoimmunologists who are vaguely aware that the field exists and are keen to join it at the tier nearest to the top.
Frankly, the invitations to "join the Family" sound rather cult-like... I would worry about the indoctrination and the no-going-back initiation ceremonies, with the branding irons and the sacrifice. I was reassured to find that the main drawcards of the Autoimmunity Network (the Family in question) appear to be early access to the next Autoimmunity Congress and revised editions of Autoimmunity Textbooks, with advertisements for Autoimmunity Review and a side-link to Shoenfeld's biography and CV.
It is undeniable, though, that this sprawling Empire of Autoimmunity is intimately entwined with antivax rhetoric. At the core of Shoenfeld's 8th, 9th, 10th and 11th ICAs in Grenada, Nice, Lisbon and Leipzig, the nuclei they crystallised around, we find (respectively) the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5thInternational Symposia on Vaccines, and these were very much antivax events.
I don't which is more revealing: the endorsement from Claire Dwoskin (who has devoted her life to the abolition of vaccines and funds the cause through her foundation CMSRI), thanking Shoenfeld and the Congress for their contributions to the anti-vaccine cause; or the decision to include her imprimatur in Congress advertising, as supportive of its brand.
These International Congresses are Madrassahs, as it were, in the "Shoenfeld School" of Autoimmunity. I don't want to go overboard about their role in radicalising antivaxxers but their founding father was happy to own that aspect:
Dear [redacted],Now another hat worn by Shoenfeld was as adviser and voucher for the "scientific and medical accuracy" of The Greater Good, a notoriously one-sided, mendacious piece of movie-shaped anti-vaccine propaganda, funded by Claire Dwoskin. I mention this only because the movie's promoters were so insistent that the International Congresses are primarily a vehicle for antivax agitation:
Thank you for your inquiry. Indeed, we are planning to hold the 4th International Symposium on Vaccines at the 10th International Congress on Autoimmunity. This symposium is an educational course that is supported by CMSRI, a research institute dealing with vaccine safety among other things. The program of the course is determined by the Congress Scientific Committee. In 2014 EACCME accredited the course for 3 credits. We will apply for accreditation also in 2016. Since the support does not come from a for-profit company of the pharma/medical device industry, rather from a non-profit research and patient-advocacy institution, ICA endorses the ISV as part of its official (pre-Congress) program.

First is that vaccine safety issues are reaching the mainstream in the scientific community and will feature once again at the 9th International Congress on Autoimmunity taking place this spring in Nice, France. Second is that a true hero in the area of vaccine safety awareness, Claire Dwoskin, of the Children’s Medical Safety Research Institute and also a donor to production of The Greater Good, will be honored at the conference with the prestigious AESKU award. The programs of these symposia show them to be standard gatherings of the "Aluminati" - a familiar group of CMSRI-funded researchers into the hidden damage wreaked by aluminium adjuvants - with Chris Exley and Claire Dwoskin as co-chairs and ring-masters. Readers who do not follow this stuff can be forgiven for not knowing these names (so see here). Most of the presentations are rehearsals for the biennial Keele Meetings on Aluminium (held each following year).[...]The congress was founded by the esteemed expert on autoimmunity, Professor Yehuda Shoenfeld, who is also recognized as having identified the new ASIA syndrome or autoimmune (autoinflammatory) syndrome induced by adjuvants. Specifically, Professor Shoenfeld and his team identified a spectrum of ailments peculiar to this new syndrome that resulted from the toxic insult of aluminum adjuvants and other toxins. Aspects of the syndrome are symptoms folks in the vaccine safety area know all too well: neurological/cognitive changes and impairment, gut problems, chronic fatigue and sleep problems, muscle weakness and pain, specific autoimmune diseases and much more.
This years’ congress will once again include hundreds of experts in their field presenting their research on over 80 autoimmunity topics to over 2,000 participants from all over the world and the congress will also feature the 3rd International Symposium on Vaccines.
The 3rd Vaccine Symposium featured Stephanie Seneff banging on about the Pineal Gland and how vaccines prevent the opening of the Third Eye; and Lucija Tomljenovic, explaining that HPV vaccines are so lethal because of "A Trojan Horse Mechanism Delivery of Vaccine Antigen Particles to the Brain". And in case you are not yet surfeited with people you've never heard of, I'll just say that Sin Hang Lee was there to promote his unique, proprietorial form of PCR, which can find the fragments of viral DNA in HPV vaccines that all other tests overlook.
The 4th Vaccine Symposium was more of the same:
IN COLLABORATION WITH CMSRI
- What role do vaccines play in inducing autoimmunity?
- Are there safe vaccines for genetically prone subjects?
- Can we vaccinate against autoimmune diseases?
- What is the role of adjuvants and/or molecular mimicry in vaccines inducing autoimmune diseases?
- Is it safe to vaccinate patients with autoimmune diseases?
Everything you wanted to know about vaccines and autoimmunity in one symposium.
The symposium is open for all Congress participants at no additional charge. No pre-registration required.
The liturgical displays of performative paranoia were enlivened on this occasion by the presence of Mark Geier, who has evidently traded in his old chemical-castration autism-cure scamming for new expertise as an autoimmunologist. The 5th International Symposium on Vaccines (May 6th, 2018, in Lisbon) was perhaps the last to be sponsored by CMSRI (which is suddenly defunct). This time it was chaired by Christopher Exley and Romain Gherardi, and subtitled "Aluminium Adjuvants And Autoimmunity" for the benefit of anyone unsure of the overall message. No-one especially egregious featured in the program.
With this digression behind us, we can return to the nexus of autoimmunity and antivax enthusiasms, which attains a kind of apotheosis in ASIA. This is not the 1980s prog-rock super-band with Roger Dean album covers, but instead an expanse of clinical territory, 'Autoimmunity Syndrome Induced by Adjuvants'. "Adjuvants" is here interpreted in a liberal sense, to include the silicone fillings of breast implants and the less-palpable, perhaps metaphorical additives responsible for Sick Building Syndrome. Thus ASIA subsumes the etiological enigma of "Gulf War Syndrome", by dint of a 2000 report that Gulf War anthrax vaccines contained squalene as an adjuvant (the manufacturers and the US military rejected this claim, and the evidence had long been refuted by the time Shoenfeld relayed it in 2009, 2011 and 2015).
ASIA is also known as "Shoenfeld's Syndrome" in its author's less modest moments. Other authorities tend to reject its validity, and even the coherence of the concept. There is much to be said for this new concept of defining syndromes not by their symptoms but by the purported cause: just by using the name, people have accepted your hypothesis.
Before ASIA, everything was the Anti-Phospholipid Syndrome (e.g. Hughes' Syndrome) until proven otherwise. APS is a shape-shifting clinical entity with a thousand disguises, and caused by vaccines. Still, there are diagnostic restrictions on its scope (so it only accounts for about 300 of nearly 2000 papers), hence the expansion of the boundaries to Auto-Immunity in general.
We should return to ASIA, for it also stakes a claim to side-effects from the MMR vaccine (which contains no adjuvants or preservatives, being a live-virus product) and even from the oral polio vaccine (which is, by definition, not injected). It further subsumes the nebulous phenomenon of MMF, and by extension ME-CFS, which is just a manifestation of MMF with different diagnostic features (at least in France, according to an astroturf lobby-group speaking on behalf of those afflicted with ME-CFS). "MMF" is Macrophagal Myofasciitis: a condition designed to use up all the 'i's left surplus when 'aluminium' is telescoped into the barbarous form 'aluminum'. It is rarely reported outside of France, and outside the circle of colleagues who have been trained to recognise it.

ASIA made its debut in 2011, and received its definitive description in a 2015 volume (sponsored by CMSRI). The groundwork, though, was laid in a 2009 Special Issue of Lupus, with Shoenfeld as co-author of 13 of the 18 papers. Of these, "Adjuvants and autoimmunity" is one of the foundational documents for the genre: it reappeared in extended form as "Role of Adjuvants in Injection and Autoimmunity" in the 2015 compendium. Large sections of text had previously appeared in an uncredited Wikipedia entry and as the Abstracts and summaries of other researchers.

Moving on, enquiring minds want to know the evidence for the report that the Hep-B vaccine
is the second most common vaccine reported to the USA Vaccine Adverse Events Report System.Searches for a source lead only to other authors quoting that claim as a fact. Professor Shoenfeld has not responded to comments at PubPeer, on this and other topics.
Considering his "propensity for selective ad hominem attacks", and his response to the queries from "Neurodiversity", perhaps this is for the best.
Dear Rolf,
This issue between the lady and the Geiers is an emotional vendetta and not a scientific issue. The paper was not published in our journal!! We do not need any report to anybody except the authors why their paper was not published. I am aware of this lady “disease” also in other aspects and domains. She writes to all the world and it arrived to at a stage of nuisance. We have decided not to respond to any of her emails letters etc.

Leonid's additions include this discovery:For example, Professor Shoenfeld explained how aluminium in vaccines poisons people in a BMC Medicine video interview in 2013. The occasion was a paper in that journal which Shoenfeld coauthored and which contains fabricated data. And this one:
Incidentally, just before Shoenfeld was put forward as Academy member, Sheba Medical Center advertised for his antivax rants, but had the press release and even its externally archived version purged in May 2019 (luckily, Shoenfeld’s paranoid antivax fans were quick to save screenshots and another copy in March 2019):
Top Israeli Doctor Points to Vaccines as Contributing to the Rising Rate of Autoimmune Diseases
[…] “Throughout our lifetime, the normal immune system walks a fine line between preserving normal immune reactions and developing autoimmune diseases,” says the article. “The healthy immune system is tolerant to self-antigens. When self-tolerance is disturbed, dysregulation of the immune system follows, resulting in the emergence of an autoimmune disease. Vaccination is one of the conditions that may disturb this homeostasis in susceptible individuals, resulting in autoimmune phenomena and ASIA.”
[…] Dr. Shoenfeld summarizes, “…many reports that describe post-vaccination autoimmunity strongly suggest that vaccines can indeed trigger autoimmunity. Defined autoimmune diseases that may occur following vaccinations include arthritis, lupus (systemic lupus erythematosus, SLE), diabetes mellitus, thrombocytopenia, vasculitis, dermatomyositis, Guillain-Barre syndrome and demyelinating disorders. And almost all types of vaccines have been reported to be associated with the onset of ASIA.”

‘The reason he is depressed is because he has these extradition proceedings. As I understand it, the French authorities are seeking to extradite Mr Noakes.’
The court heard that Noakes had sold vials of the blood product to customers in France and that investigators in that country were seeking to prosecute him.
The judge explained that further issues had also arisen because Noakes had refused to deal with his legal representatives.
The defendant said: ‘I have not been engaging with my solicitors.’
Judge Loraine-Smith replied: ‘I know and I wish you would, you have very real problems. You need experienced lawyers to deal with the legal system as it is rather than the legal system as others wish is was.’
He explained that he had received a document from Noakes that attempted to throw the case out of court.
The judge said the document contained references to ‘Deuteronomy, The Book of Malachi and The Stone of Scone - it has nothing to do with this case.
‘I am not going to say what I think about it, it would be impolite if I did. This, and I have carefully read it, does not help you - it is of no relevance at all.'
‘I think your case has been hijacked,’ added the judge.
‘It has nothing to do with an English court of law.’
Noakes responded that he did not think his solicitors were acting in his best interest.
‘Under duress, they got me to plead guilty. Three of them pounced on me with no warning'.
He appeared at Southwark Crown Court today flanked by roughly fifty supporters to face a confiscation hearing to allow the court to recoup his criminal earnings. It is heartwarming that so many people will rally againstInjustice, and for the worthy cause of "Letting a multimillionaire hang on to the proceeds of fraud". Our estimation at Riddled is that
The hearing was delayed after supporters were stopped by security from entering the already packed courtroom.
Shouts of ‘If there’s a cure for terminal cancer in this room I want it,’ and, ‘There is a lack of justice in there,’ could be heard through the door.
Judge Nicholas Loraine-Smith told the angry crowd: ‘None of you are doing Mr Noakes any favours.
‘Last year Mr Noakes pleaded guilty to some offences, I then took over the case and I had a lengthy Newton hearing in which I heard a lot of evidence about Mr Noakes.
‘I sentenced him to 15 months in prison and he has served that sentence.
‘The case is not about GcMAF. It is my duty to say what money can be got back.’
One woman in the public gallery walked out midway through the hearing, shouting: ‘I’m not listening to this bulls**t.’
‘Well, there we are,’ the judge replied, ‘I know a lot of people feel very strongly and sincerely about GcMAF.'
- one third of them were Freeman-on-the-Land Common-Law-Court bumblefucks, hoping to see Noakes invoke their supra-legal theories and Ontological proofs and thereby force the consensus English legal structure to dissolve in a puff of logic.
- One third were raggle-taggle Truthers and conspiracists, knowing sweet-fuck-all about the background of Noakes' crimes but compelled by a gaes to support whatever the opposite of the real-world evidence-based perspective might be.
- One third had restraining orders preventing them from abusing their children any more, and their sympathy for Noakes springs from the fact that he, like them, is about to be deprived of his property.

* The court had to be cleared owing to the roars of ribald laughter which greeted the appearance in the witness-box of the twelve red-bearded dwarfs all in a heap. Their names were read out amid growing uproar. The names appeared to be: Sophus Barkayo-Tong, Amaninter Axling, Farjole Merrybody, Guttergorm Guttergormpton, Badly Oronparser, Churm Rincewind, Cleveland Zackhouse, Molonay Tubilderborst, Edeledel Edel, Scorpion de Rooftrouser, Listenis Younghaupt, Frums Gillygottle.
Cocklecarrot: Are these genuine names?
A Dwarf; No, m'worship.
Cocklecarrot: Then what's your name?
Dwarf: Bogus, m'ludship.
Cocklecarrot: No, your real name.
Dwarf: My real name is Bogus, your excellency.
(At this point the court had to be cleared)

Is it irresponsible to speculate on the similarity of Figure 3 to 1970s SF cover art?

Here at the Riddled School of Alternative Ethics we are familiar with the concept of human photosynthesis, but Elisabeth Bik has encountered a version of that concept which reaches new levels of I-can't-even. The Human Photosynthesis Study Center is the source of at least 56 papers addressing the implications for well-being, cancer and Alzheimer's Disease of "the amazing ability of the human body to transform the visible and invisible light energy into chemical free energy through dissociation and re-formed from the water molecule".
Evidently“Human being begin to lose the capacity to split the water molecule at 26 years old, ca. 10 % each decade, and after fifties goes into free fall” My own capacity reached terminal velocity a long time ago.
Go read the whole thing, as they say. I shall stay here and admire Figure 4, from which we learn that "The mesencephalon is entirely imbued by the energy that coming from melanin, night and day; all the life; and can be schematized as hereby above. Note that energy coming from both sides".

Either that, or it's Saruman clutching his Palantír while made up as the worst clown EVAH.

If you meet the strawman on the Yellow Brick Road, kill him
Like a candle drawn to a moth, like a dog re-drawn to its vomit (or anyone else's), here at the Riddled Institute of Advanced Studies and Hay-Baler Museum we are drawn to the New Earth University. For instead of launching straight into the Childhood's-End New Paradigm Higher-Consciousness stylings, the web-site home page is an advertisement for a free download of Reverend Jim Humble's guide to cleansing your body and burning away corporeal impurity with the help of industrial bleach. Which is to say, it's a signal that one is dealing with truly high-concept scammers and grifters.
The lists of NEU Faculty and Fellows are no disappointment, every bit the toxic-waste-dump of garbage that I expected. One and all they are triumphant in their personal realms of endeavour, and like Prosperity-Gospel televangelists and e-mail spammers, their altruism inspires them to share the secret of their success [SPOILER ALERT: I am going to speculate that the secret is "Lie non-stop to greed-head eedjits and persuade them to send you their money"].

Both lists are walls of mood-ring-bedizened avatars, giving prominent place toDr SirJohn Walshof Brannagh (a.k.a. Chief Justice Sir Knobhead of Upperwankington): the Australian fabulist and defrocked barrister, noted for his collections of classic cars and made-up qualifications. There is a kind of Platonic perfection to his preening self-regard. Sadly, his entry omits his full list of fraudulent titles, content with referring readers to their copies of "Who's Who"... I can only suppose that the reference to Debrett's Peerage was omitted by mistake.
"That solicitor should be struck off the Rolls," Keats said.
The presence of Walsh is our reminder that NEU! is yet another branch within the organisational structure of grift set up by "Sacha" Stone -- failed rock musician and broad-spectrum conman with a diversified scampire of webshops. We met it previously in the context of Sacha's "2019 New Earth Festival" / "World Health Sovereignty Summit" (a kind of Fyre Festival for trustafarian Truthers who enjoy being lectured about Fraudster Freedom by a clown-car cavalcade of mountebanks).
Like the Faculty, the Fellows are what Orac would call a "target-rich environment". But the Charlatan Charivari must remain an exercise for the reader*, for right now I turn my indistractible laser-like focus upon 'Bibi' Bacchus, from the Faculty ofBullshit Spigotry Natural Law (hence the purple mood-ring adorning her image).
An accomplished real-estate pimp in Florida, her specialty is Sovereign Law (a topic she researched while serving an eight-year sentence for a felony which goes unspecified but was no doubt a total frame-up).
"It is a new school of psychotherapy," Another Kiwi vouchsafed. "The route to personal development is to accept the various aspects and personifications of your unconscious self -- the Strawman, the Tin-man, the Little Dog, the Cowardly Lion -- and integrate them into a three-dimensional, individuated personality."
"Not quite," I declaimed in full Explaining Voice, leaning forward with elbows on the bar so I could steeple my fingers in a gesture of introspective thought. "The Strawman is one of the multiple aspects of Self-dom which populate the Sovereign-Citizen legal belief-system. Just as Dynastic Egyptians had multiple souls -- the Ba and Ka and Akh and Shadow and Name -- which go separate ways with different roles after corporeal death." I tried to ignore the bar-top puddle of cold spillage in which one elbow had landed.
So it is a tenet of Natural Law that to prevail in court appearances and rid oneself of pesky tax and debt obligations, one must separate these aspects, while attaching those obligations firmly to the most dispensable one, the legal-fiction not-me.
And for full effect (according to the farthest reaches of evolving SovCit theology), the invocations of voluntary jurisprudence and incantations for dispelling Statute Law must be couched in Quantum Syntax. That is, sentences should be enlivened by Erratic Capitalisation and colons as a punctuational index of which self is indicated.** Here's a sample. Isn't it glorious? I like to think that when reading these statements out loud in courtrooms, you utter Khoisan click consonants to indicate each colon, hyphen and square bracket, in the manner of Victor Borges' Phonetic Punctuation.

Since then they operate a GoFundMe grift to hire custody lawyers maintain their life-style, and the son is more rewarding to Leonardo on the far side of the Bay of Biscay than he ever would be in person.

But his heart is not really in the MMS industry, and the Bleach-Enema Sacrament no longer dominates his Faceborg timeline... I can only suppose that the Victims-of-Baby-Snatching grift and the SovCit scam are more lucrative. One would have thought that the best advertisement for a book about winning courtroom battles with Colons and Capitals would be to go back home and win back custody, but that's just me.
As for Another Kiwi's Oz-themed school of psychotherapy, I understand that he has franchised it under the slogan "Pay attention to the Man behind the Curtain!"

The common theme among these groups of litigants, who Mr. Justice Rooke collectively refers to as "Organized Pseudolegal Commercial Argument litigants," is that they believe themselves to be privy to some secret legal principles which allow them to evade the normal rules and regulations that bind every other member of civil society. These people — and I have encountered them in my practice — drape themselves in cobbled-together pseudolegal verbiage and concepts, such as describing themselves as "corporate entities" or "juristic persons," claiming copyright over their own names and spelling their names with add-on hyphens and colons (the husband in the case before Mr. Justice Rooke, for example, referred to himself as "::Dennis-Larry:Meads::"), and filing bogus pseudolegal documents festooned with gibberish and meaningless symbols, such as thumbprints, multicoloured ink, pompous phrases set in capital letters, stamps and references to inapplicable, foreign or repealed statutes.

The authors informed us that the characterisation was completed by a third party company and they used the images “without any editing or modification”. The authors repeated the experiments and requested to provide replacement data for Fig. 1a, S1b, S3, S22, S24b and S25a. The new figures were reviewed by an independent expert. The authors believe that the scientific content and conclusions of the related studies presented by the pictures in the published paper can be reproduced. However, the independent expert still questions the reliability of the published images. The authors informed us that due to a flooding accident in the laboratory, the original data of the published EM images were destroyed. In addition, the third party company only saved the test data for one month. Due to the large number of images, it is not possible to replace the published images with the new figures. To avoid the possibility of publishing unreliable EM images, the authors agree to retract this paper to protect the rigor of the scientific record. Also, I can't believe that people are still transgressing the laws of nature with blasphemous experiments in flood-prone underground laboratories when they could locate their laboratories in castles on Carpathian mountain peaks. This isn't the Century of the Fruitbat, you know!

Halifax explosion
This post was earlier cross-posted at Leonid Schneider's site, hence the nonfrivolity and Explaining Voice (and the images reduced to nigh-invisibility here). The version there is improved by Leonid's frame story and editing.
Watch closely now, as I transform a Western blot of p21 protein blobs into a band of "Total p53", and an Actin loading control into a different one, using only control enhancement and a horizontal flip! You'll notice that at no time through the proceedings do my hands leave my wrists [Milligan 1972]. It is an unparalleled feat of prestidigitation, performed to great acclamation before the crowned heads of Europe, such as you will see nowhere else... unless you read decade-old cell biology journals, and particularly Hall et al (2008a) [1] and Hall et al (2008b) [2].
In total that Actin control band makes four appearances. It also illustrated Hall et al (2008c) [3], in a similar role. Then in 2013 the authors of [2] provided a Corrigendum to correct the excessive re-use of illustrations from [3], amending Figures 1, 4, 5 and 7 (which might not reach the threshold of what the RetractionWatch observers call a "mega-correction", but is a "macro-correction" at the very least). The Actin band vanished from Figure 5A, but rose again in its fourth incarnation (truncated to three lanes and repurposed for a different set of conditions) within the new Fig 1D*.
Further displays of legerdemain await readers who care to examine the appropriate PubPeer threads... for instance, other concerns with the new Fig 1D*. I wrote this (as is the custom of my people) by strip-mining those threads and others, and by cherry-picking the low-hanging fruit in an unfortunate pile-up of metallurgical and horticultural metaphors, so it is not meant to be exhaustive. Admire, in passing, the similarities of three streaks of mRNA expression, from the '0-hour' conditions of different experiments (after adjusting for lightness):

Some of the critiques of [2] involved Figures reused from [3] with different lanes or labels in the reuse, so they were preempted by the 2013 Corrigendum. Others were not.

So far we have looked at a remarkable trilogy from the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at Dalhousie University, Halifax (a city best-known for exploding, a century ago). By the time of Hill et al (2013) [4] the group had acquired second affiliations with the University of Algarve (on the south coast of Portugal), while following the same policy: repurposing protein bands from Western blots into new ones as evidence that experiments had indeed occurred. Often the bands were flipped vertically or horizontally, which had the unintended side-effect of making the re-use less apparent.

Now in electrophoresis commentary, one school of thought holds that loading controls are no big deal, because researchers can be confident that their cell-lysate preparations reliably contain the same total amount of protein. So it is fine if they do not bother with controls in an experiment, and fake them later while preparing a Figure (to grudgingly assuage the Third Reviewer's unreasonable demands), cutting out the necessary number of lanes from any old source, like strips of wallpaper. Like this:
It is harder to be complaisant when the conjuring trick of inversion turns one protein into another.
Skipping a few years brings us to Hill et al (2017) [5]. By now Professor Lee had retired and the Dalhousie team had dispersed... or at any rate, relocated to University of Algarve. The proteinaceous transformations continued, reaching new heights of exuberance. The authors display an open-minded acceptance or even permissiveness towards their slices of gel: if one chooses to identify as AKT or β-actin rather than FOX03a why stand in its way?
TRIB2, I'd like to introduce you to pSER253-FOX03a... but I see you've already met.
The number of pairs of duplicated bands in Figure 2(c) (the doubling variously concealed by rescaling, darkening or horizontal flips) exhausts the number of colors available to show their kinship.
Figure 4(e) is intimidating in its scale but at least one
The innovation in [5] is the provision of Supplementary Information files containing raw data - the original Western Blot gels (full-size and un-retouched) from which the in-text illustrations came as cleaned-up excerpts. Alas, these raw-data files are lower-resolution than those image files in the text. More to the point, they mirror the in-text duplications.
The charitable impulse when one finds an image repeated in a paper to illustrate different results is to think "Someone accidentally chose the wrong panel while assembling a complex Figure", but this "carelessness" interpretation is not an option when 'raw gels' have been created by flipping and selectively cropping an original, and changing the labels on the lanes.

[Thx Sicarius Tropicus]
By 2019, regular first author Richard Hill had found a permanent post as Senior Research Fellow at Portsmouth University, so I think of these last two papers as the Portsmouth Diptych: Mihajluk et al (2019) [6] and Howarth et al (2019) [7]. They are linked by an Actin loading band, serving to equalise overall protein concentration across different sets of conditions in independent studies of two wholly-different proteins. Is there nothing that a horizontal flip can't accomplish?

[Thx Melipona Capixaba]
To compensate for that lack of exuberance, I violated chronological sequence and left the best until last. Prepare yourself for Hill et al (2011) [8]. In fact we saw its Figure 1A already, as the lower half of a comparison with [4], but the majority of the linkages are internal. They are completely over-the-top, with splicing within bands on top of the insouciant recycling.

[Thx Halimolobos Lasiolobus]
'Condylocarpon Amazonicum' commended the Supplementary Data file to the readers' attention. It is a Blot Bacchanalia.

Protein bands cavort and caper, tumbling and swapping faces like figures in the marginalia of medieval manuscripts, or like the unleashed familiars in 'The Downfall of Hermogenes'.
How this Western Walpurgisnacht was ever accepted for publication is anyone's guess. Perhaps Dr Hill used his Cuckoo mind-control powers on the Oncotarget editors and peer-reviewers.
[8] could serve as an educational resource for would-be contributors to PubPeer, to train them gradually in spotting blot manipulations or repurposing, for the shenanigans are not well-concealed and there is nothing too challenging for the untrained eye. Proving in passing that whatever its detractors might say, Oncotarget can play a useful role in the scientific literature.
Developments after the cross-posting at Leonid's site include:
- The promise of a retraction of [8].
- Coverage of that retraction at RetractionWatch.
- Further PubPeer scrutiny of [5].
- An investigation at Portsmouth University.
- Disappearance of a Portsmouth University press release and Faceborg page.
